My Husband "Subvet" says that when our first son "Sonshine" was born the sun rose on our world, when our second son "Gator" was born the sun laughed and when our daughter "Sugars" was born all the flowers bloomed. That says it all.

Thanks Pea

Dear Bathroom Scale

You have begun to move in the wrong direction yet again.

So listen up!

I have a trash can, and I know how to use it.

Shape up or you will be shipped out!

There, that oughta do the trick!

Mandatory Group Therapy on the Med/Surg Floor

WARNING...WORK RANT AHEAD

Lesson 1:
I am a Nurse, not your dealer. If you need Dilaudid, Phenergan, Ativan AND Benadryl each 10 minutes BEFORE they're ordered to be given by the MD, spaced out so that you're getting something every hour..on the hour, YOU ARE AN ADDICT. Seek Help (elsewhere).

Lesson 2:
My WWII vet's chest pain is MORE IMPORTANT than your need for Dilaudid, Phenergan, Ativan and Benadryl. WAIT YOUR TURN.

Lesson 3:
My OTHER WWII vet's broken (and unfixable) hip is being aggravated by his Restless Leg Syndrome that's causing involuntary and jerky movements to that leg. He hasn't called me for a second Vicodin even though it's 30 min PAST the time he could have it, and it's the only medicine he's taken. I only found out he's hurting cause I went and checked on him. You could learn a lot from him.

Lesson 4:
When I tell you that you're not going to get the "rush" from the Dilaudid I just gave you because I pushed it very slowly after I'd dilluted it and you continue to ask me REPEATEDLY if it went in/if I'm going to redose it because you "didn't feel it". Don't then lament on how you DON'T get a rush from/aren't just aking for more Dilaudid. I'M NOT STUPID.

Lesson 5:
When I have 6 patients with 6 different reasons for being in the hospital, 4 of them involving surgeries/wounds, 1 chest pain and your "esophagitis". Don't expect me to stay in your room all night long pushing meds, then 'chatting'. I'm not your new found best friend. You're high on Dilaudid and should I by some strange occurance have free time....I'd rather see what knowlege I can glean from my 2 WWII vets down the hall from you. I mean after all...Mr Broken Hip was a fighter mechanic in the Navy for 20 years...AFTER serving 4 in the Air Force. He loaded bombs onto fighters without knowing they were training the drop and flee maneuver. If I have time to talk...I want to talk PLANES!!

Lesson 6:
It is 2 o'clock IN THE MORNING. Go..To..Sleep.

Thank you and good night.

Roots

So, I'm working on my "Taking the Hooligans to Mass" guest post.

I work on my posts by talking them out to my imaginary friends (sounds better than saying I talk to myself.....doesn't it??).

As I was talking out the ups and downs and ins and outs of "Taking the Hooligans to Mass" my brain started singing.

Does your brain ever break out in song in the middle of something else?? Mine does it all the time.

Well, the song I got to singing is one that I first heard sitting on my Grandaddy's knee. (remember my crazy Grandaddy?? the one I blame....accuse....credit...dedicate the writing of this blog to??)

it's a good song...but it's almost as bad as "It's a Small World After All" for getting STUCK in there and echoing around all the empty space in my head. (and Subvet will say as soon as he reads this "Well, you WERE a blonde you know!")

At any rate
Since tis better to give than...blah blah blah....

Now YOU get to have this song stuck in YOUR brains for awhile.

If you followed the links and are wondering about my answering machine....
It now says "Hey, we are Chasing Children, leave a message and we'll call you back."
Even my boss has commented on it!

Thanks Grandaddy!

My House is Quiet!

Can you guess why??

these pics taken by their teachers last year and given to us. (Great Teachers)

They're having a great time....and so am I!

I enjoy working and feel blessed each week that I can provide for my family, but there are some hard things about being a working mom. Mostly it is how to spend my time off. I want to spend every available moment with the kids....but there are things I want to get done too. So, right now they are off to school, Subvet and Sugars are off to visit his mom and I'm getting caught up on a few tasks I haven't done.

Thought for today

Well, I've come across these rules in a couple of places.

I find most of them hard to swallow....but worth working toward.

Mother Teresa gave these rules to her Sisters to help them develop the virtue of humility:

1. Speak as little as possible about yourself.

2. Keep busy with your own affairs and not those of others.

3. Avoid curiosity.

4. Do not interfere in the affairs of others.

5. Accept small irritations with good humor.

6. Do not dwell on the faults of others.

7. Accept censures even if unmerited.

8. Give in to the will of others.

9. Accept insults and injuries.

10. Accept contempt, being forgotten and disregarded.

11. Accept injuries and insults.

12. Be courteous and delicate even when provoked by someone.

13. Do not seek to be admired and loved.

14. Do not protect yourself behind your own dignity.

15. Give in, in discussions, even when you are right.

16. Always choose the more difficult task.

What do you think about them?

Stuff and Nonsense

well, there are several posts running around in my head chasing each other in circles till you can't tell who's chasing who like my kids do in the living room!

I wanted to say for all our new Thesaurus Thursday players Welcome aboard! I love seeing new "faces" join in our game. This is a blessing to me as the definitions y'all come up with never fail to keep me laughing all week long. You can post a comment on the Thesaurus Thursday post with either Silly or Smarty definitions at any time during the week, Just click on the link below that bear/candy cane ticker to go straight to the post. Then sometime on Thursday I look over all the comments to that post and pick winners, as well as new words for the next week. I actually recommend getting your definitions posted early cuz sometimes several people have the same thought....great minds abound around here! :-)

In response to Airborne Poppa's comment...
I am a Pediatrics Nurse, have been since my first job out of nursing school. I've only been taking care of adults since January. My current job is supposed to be both Big people and Small people....but there aren't many kiddos in the hosp right now...in 2 months it will be a very different story and I will be a much happier camper. Cranky kids don't bother me. Cranky adults I think need a good spanking.

I got "fired" last night. Apparently the cranky family thought I should have seen that the cranky old man's 2 day old feeding tube site was infected. I reinforced the dressing...didn't change it. So they asked to not have me again last night. Years ago this would have broken my heart....now? frankly, my dear, I don't give a damn. The only thing me changing that dressing would possibly have done was earn him 1 extra dose of antibiotics. (and hack him off for me waking him to pull tape off his belly---and hack off the MD for me waking him up paging him) Oh, and they're mad at the MD who didn't have him on antibiotics after putting in that J-tube in the first place....and they're against having any "non-American" (meaning non white) nurses....and they've fired 2 or 3 other nurses for various 'issues'......

Here's the thing. If you or your loved one is in the hospital. Don't get cranky with the staff. There's only so many nurses who work there and you will eventually run out of people "you like" to care for you. The only one you hurt is yourself.

As for me, I traded a cranky old man with his cranky hovering family who wanted to stand and chat/gripe while I was trying to work/chart for a sweet little 88 year old lady who talked non-stop about how you choose what you do in this life. It's a waste of time being anything other than happy, accept your trials and find the humor in them.

As you might be able to guess....she was much more my style :-)

I wanted to take a tape recorder in there and just bottle her outlook. And believe you me, she's had a TOUGH life.

On a loosely related note. I've been asked by Heidi to guest post at The Extraordinary Mom's Network this is a cool website all about Moms encouraging Moms. I am very flattered that Heidi saw fit to invite me to post....and am working on writing up a scenario that we experience every Sunday morning at church. Once I get it written and she gets it up and running I'll let y'all know so you can go check it out. It's worth the read, or will be if I can just do it justice. :-)

Someone mentioned that the bear moved! Yes, these yoyos are going more quickly than I thought. Thank goodness! I hope to have them done early so I can work on Sugars' baby quilt...oh and finish The Never Ending Cross Stitch Project....but what's really calling my name is my Momma's Quilt. I've got it all planned in my head and every time I see the bumper pad (which is now on the shelf in my closet awaiting deconstruction) this quilt calls to me a little louder. Of course, I have to finish her baby quilt first A) so I'll have the squares from it for the Momma Quilt and B) so it'll get done in time for her to start pre-school next year.

So, I'll leave you with Mightymom's stratagy for dealing with rainy days Part 3.
Part 1 was haircuts.
Part 2 was "Follow the leader"
Part 3 was Dance! Dance! Dance!

As I was too tired to go to Mass this morning after working last night we all stayed home and I went to bed. Then I got up early and let Subvet go to Mass alone. (Did you hear him shout "Yipee!!!" on his way out the door?) This means I had the kiddos again tonight. So I cranked up the CD player and the 4 of us danced.

I had to go hunt up this one song. It's been my theme song ever since it was released. It's had many different meanings to me over the years. I seem to play it a lot in the last days of each summer since we started sending Sonshine to Pre-school.

In my opinion, this is the best song that Garth Brooks has written, and the best video he made. If you know me at all, you're gonna understand. If you don't understand....."Come in, and know me better man!"

rainy days

Well, it's rained for a week straight,

needless to say the kids and Subvet are getting a bit restless as they haven't had their daily hour or two out in the bounce house and pool.

So, I decided yesterday it was haircutting day.

I started cutting everyone's hair about a year ago when we were looking at how to lower our expenses. At $15 a cut and 3 guys who regularly need cuts we figured this was a good way to pinch a few dollars. I bought a set of clippers for $45 and watched closely as the barber trimmed the guys' hair. It's really very easy....first go around one direction then go around perpendicular to the first time...clip back and ears and you're done.

(now go try it on 3 and 4 year old boys and you too can see just how EASY it is!--Subvet does sit still)

I also took a tip from the kids cuts only place and put a chair in front of the TV and turned on a new movie to watch while I cut. This does help...for the most part. (in case you're wondering I spread a sheet out on the living room floor, put the chair in the middle of the sheet for easy cleanup without clogging the vacuum)

So, anyway, 2 haircuts later and a rainy afternoon had been disposed of. (yes, I'm slow)

So then tonight Subvet ran off to church and a Knights of Columbus meeting and here I am with another rainy night and 3 kids who've OD'd on TV all week.

Mightymom's solution??

This is actually another "therapy activity"......but don't tell the kids that!!

I told them we were gonna play "follow the leader"...just so happened I was the leader and I had them going through all of Sunshine's therapy stuff while making laps up one blue line and down the other. (That's just painter's tape on the floor by the way)

OOOOOOO YEAHHHH!! I'm Mean Old Mommy fur sure!

First we "walked with straight feet like a tight rope" which helps him as he tends to walk duck-footed, this also helped him keep watch over what his feet were doing as another of his issues is running into and over things and people because he has decreased awareness of his surroundings.

Next we "tippy-toe walked" for a lap, this increases the strength in the itty bitty muscles in the feet and helps him develop arches as he's flat footed.

Then we "bear-walked" a lap. This is walking on hands and feet and increases balance muscles, coordination, what they call motor planning which means knowing what you're gonna move next and upper body strength.

Last we "wheel-barrow walked" a lap. This is the hardest of all. It's where I hold their feet and they walk on their hands. The level of upper body strength required increases as the feet are elevated.

By then (along with a few laps of just flat out running interspersed----come on, you didn't REALLY expect them to follow the leader did you??? not my kids!) they were all tuckered out and ready for bed.

Wonder what we'll do tomorrow??

Oh and 6 days left till SCHOOL, We'll be dancing down the hall after dropping them off!

Salacious is how the food really tastes to them. (sailors) It's not quite delicious, after all. It's the sailor's palate's compromise. Tabasco sauce helps in making said food salacious.

Who You Gonna Call???

OK, this is another I've Got a Question, You've Got an Answer post. So get ready to weigh in folks.

Who do you call or what do you do when the following things happen in your home??

A) The oven element breaks into several small pieces

B) The air conditioner suddenly stops keeping you comfortably cool

C) The cat chews through the plug wire on the clippers you use to cut hair (or any other wire, including speaker wires)

D) The dishwasher starts making a scary sound and quits cleaning your dishes

E) You start getting nasty looking grains of "stuff" out of the shower head (it isn't helped by taking off the shower head and cleaning it out, that just reveals big chunks of "stuff" in the pipe)

F) The center leg on your inherited Duncan V dining room table wobbles and is in danger of falling off.

G) The burner on your stovetop stops heating up

H) The blower on the heater/AC stops blowing and starts making a grinding/rattling noise

I) The bathtub faucet drips and the knob no longer turns it on or off

J) All of a sudden the dryer takes 4 times as long to dry each load

K) It's time to change the oil in your minivan

L) There's water in the cupboard under your sink, revealing a pipe that has become disconnected

M) There's a stopped up drain that plunger and drain-o can't help

Let me know how you handle these situations....and I'll tell you what I do.

I call my husband. He has, by himself, fixed every one of these problems and many more that I can't remember right now.

A and G he ordered replacement parts and installed them, B he checked the refrigerant levels in the AC, added more refrigerant and cleaned the condensing coils (both inside and outside), C he splices wires with apparent ease, D he disassembled and reassembled our old dishwasher about every 6 weeks for a few months before we replaced it, E he drained the hot water heater and replaced the heating rods which had corroded (it was this corrosion that was traveling through the pipes), F he put a dry wall mount in the hole where the leg screwed on so the screw would hold, H he disassembled the fan motor, repacked the ball bearings and reassembled it...I think if memory serves he ultimately replaced the entire motor as it was shot, I he replaced the tub faucets, J he snaked out the drain line to the dryer...then hooked his wetvac up to the garden hose and sucked out a bunch of water that had gotten in the line. K he always changes our oil, L he replaced the pipe and M snaked out the drain.

He thinks that these things are "no big deal" I disagree.

He is "da man"!

I am very lucky to have him in my life. A great husband, a great Dad, a great friend, a great cook.

I love you very much Subvet, thanks for sticking around this crazy lady.

Here's a great olympic video!

thanks Steph

Tiny Talk Tuesday

TINY TALK TUESDAY is once again upon us. Go see Mary at Not Before 7 to see more of this fun event.

Well, it's really overcast today, so Sunshine starts talking (nonstop) about the clouds and how he wants a rainbow. Out of desperation for an answer to him I say that Momma can't make a rainbow outside, only God can make a rainbow so you'll have to talk to Him.

Sunshine then says (in that singsong voice kids get): "Go-od!! I want a rainbow outside please,......No-ow!!! (in his regular voice) I'm talking to God mama!!"

Momma, "Ok dear, you keep on God's listening." (and His patience is much longer than mine) :-)

da man!

So, the element in our oven went out. As in broke into 4 pieces.

We went 8 days without an oven.

Subvet was greatly bothered by this.

At his first opportunity after the oven was fixed he made in one day:

2 batches of chocolate chip muffins

2 batches of chocolate chip cookies

2 gallons of spaghetti sauce

an apple pie

and a strawberry pie

it was a 2 towel operation.
(he claimed the kitchen was too hot to wear his apron)

please note that this is my nice embroidered Christmas hand towel.....

(and you wonder why that turtle is moving so slooooowwww????)

listen closely

If you know nothing about me you should know that I have 3 favorite singers.

1) The Beatles
2) Bon Jovi
3) Gloria Estefan

(in order of their appearance in my life)

These songwriters and their life stories fascinate me. Always have.

Here is a video of Gloria Estefan talking about her accident and her paralysis.
(you might want to listen with your eyes closed, the cameraman must have been drunk as he was obviously unable to stay upright)

Her attitude is one I try to emulate here on this silly blog.

You can find humor in every situation "you cannot lose your sense of humor", and never underestimate the power of prayer.

Meet Kyle

Many months ago Susan at Penless Writer asked to add Kyle Morris to my Military Prayer List. She didn't know his rank only that he'd joined the Army and would I pray for him.

Well, of course.

So, imagine my surprise when I read a post today telling all about how Kyle just got married!!

I thought HEY, I KNOW HIM!!

Quick review of the prayer list and voila! There he is!!!

So, for those of you who pray the list with me, I would like to introduce you to one of these fine folk. It's so very wonderful to put a pic with a name. I may start adding pics to the prayer list where available.

Remember, when talking about our military. Regardless of what list you see them on, every name on the list has a face, a family, a future.

God Bless Kyle and his new bride.

Please, if you haven't in awhile, take a moment and go to the prayer list on the sidebar and say a prayer for these wonderful people who are sacrificing themselves for your freedom. And don't forget to add their families to your prayer too!.

Thanks,
Sarah

Please Note:
I have noticed that a lot of folks aren't scrolling down when they come here. I want Kyle to stay at the top so all of you can "meet" him. Therefore Thesaurus Thursday will be posponed for a day to give Kyle his due, look to come back and play sometime tomorrow night. thanks.

See the new ticker???

OK, here's the deal

This is a Yoyo Bear.

MightyMom, the head Yoyo around here, has decided to make EACH child a Yoyo bear for Christmas.

I made this great decision BEFORE I read the pattern and learned that EACH bear requires 82 yoyos.

This would be in addition to the Christmas Ornaments that I regularly make as gifts to give away (now you know why I'm head Yoyo!)

Also, you should probably know that I insist on having all Christmas shopping and gift making and everything but wrapping done BY THANKSGIVING. I do this because Advent is my favorite time of year and I refuse to spend it rushing around being stressed and hurried just so I have gifts to give at each party. I also hate crowds and refuse to step foot in anything resembling a STORE/MALL during December. (fortunately for me Subvet does the grocery shopping).

So, I figure if I have all the Yoyos made by Halloween I can make the heads and assemble the bears in a month.

But that means I have to have 246 yoyos made by Halloween.

That's ELEVEN WEEKS away!!

These yoyos are not hard to make, but they do take time. sigh as does everything else.

So, come along with me on this journey into the land of yoyos and I will keep the ticker at the top to see progress.

The ornaments we're making this year are much quicker and easier. This is intentional because I want the boys to make them. So far they've made about 15 of the 30ish that I make each year.

*tip* I always make about 4 or 5 extra incase I forgot someone on my list or get invited to a gift exchange party I hadn't planned on.

Hi Ho Yoyo---Away!!!!!!
Don't forget to play Thesaurus Thursday before you sign off! Hurry or all the good definitions will be taken!!

Who Stole the Prune Juice??

So, one of the patients up here asked for prune juice.....

We don't keep prune juice so the house supervisor had to go down to the kitchen and bring some up.

Nurse #1 comes up to me and tells me there's prune juice at the nurse's station.
I tell him I don't need any thanks anyway.

We laugh.

Nurse #2 Comes up looking for the prune juice. It has now gone missing.

I accused Nurse #1 of stealing the prune juice. He accuses me. No thanks, still not in need of prune juice.

Charge nurse is now searching the floor for the prune juice.

Prune juice is nowhere to be found. All 5 nurses and 2 techs have been asked nicely. Next Charge nurse is gonna break out the rubber hoses.

Where did the prune juice go??

Well, says Nurse #1, we'll find out who stole it in a bit after they go to the bathroom!!

Sarah, says he, have you gone to the bathroom yet?? Nope, not I.

To my knowledge the prune juice still hasn't surfaced.

(and some people actually think nurses don't have anything to do!)

MightyMom's Mess Quota

Each child is allowed 1 (ONE) big mess a day.

That's it, just one.

After that their quota has been filled and they must be perfectly clean little angels for the rest of the day!!

Gator-boy decided that he didn't want to run the risk of not filling his quota for the day today so he got it filled up (along with tomorrow's and the next day's) bright and early this morning.

Subvet had gone to the hospital to visit his mother and left me in charge of the hooligans and hooliganette.

While I'm busy getting breakfast on the table, Gator-boy dumps 2/3 of a FULL salt shaker on his head...down his right shoulder/arm....the chair cusion...the table...and (of course) the floor.

I tried to explain that it's the left shoulder you throw salt over...and just a bit'll do ya.

And just so's ya know, you can't sweep salt. Got to get on your hands and knees with a wet rag on that one!! Luckily he's short and the floor wasn't too far for him to reach!

Patients

Well, last night I had a problem child patient at work.

It wasn't pretty let me tell you.

As I was describing my problem child to my hubby he said he knew the perfect song for him.

yup, probably this young man's theme song......

Now the whole floor has a certain aroma...and it ain't from Nancy's or Gretchen's aromas either!

Here it is:

YIKES, I've been tagged

Seems like I've done soooo many meme's that you should know everything there is to know about me already, but Linda tagged me for yet another one, so I'll do my best and we'll add this to the meme list.

Therefore the Quick Rules for the Quick Quirky Meme are as follows:

Link to the person who tagged me.
Mention the rules.
Tell six quirky yet boring, unspectacular details about myself.
Tag six other bloggers by linking to them.
Go to each person’s blog and leave a comment that lets them know they’ve been tagged.

First off, I don't like the "boring, unspectacular" part. NOTHING about me or my life is ever boring....and every moment is spectacular.

1) I sing when I get stressed. Usually Zip-a-dee-do-dah or The Alphabet Song or Mr Roger's Won't You Be My Neighbor. My co-workers find this hilarious....or annoying depending.

2) After 32 years of having hair that was straighter than most walls my hair is turning curly. This (along with several other things) is blamed on my daughter.

3) Age is irrevalent to me. This might be because I've always "hung out" with an "older crowd" (as in I was the kid sitting in with the grown-ups) I've never understood why so many people care about their age. After all, it beats the alternative. (teeheehee, I wrote this at work at 4AM this morning....I meant to say irrelevant. wonder what my charting looks like??)

4) I hate the word "irregardless" which my husbands seems to use as often as he can, REGARDLESS of how much it irritates me.

5) I miss hearing my husband snore. I mean really, you try listening to someone snore while you sleep for 9 years, then try to sleep without it.

6) I love Mel Brooks and Cohen Brothers movies. Seen em all...love em all. My favs of each. Men in Tights and Raizing Arizona. "Well, it ain't Ozzie and Harriet"....POP QUIZ....can you tell when in the movie that line was said???? Cracks me up just thinking about it.

Now, Stephanie, Airborne Momma, Nancy, Jacquie, texasholly, salubrina

Confessions of a Bag Lady

I admit it, I'm a Bag Lady.

Really, I am.

Here, let me prove it to you.

Here we have "Mightymom's corner" in our living room.

See the bags??

I count 8. Can you find all 8??

Just wait and you'll see.

Let's start with Mightymom's purse (Bag #1)

Inside we find.....

Bag #2 which holds thread and crochet hook and crucifixes for making rosaries...really ought to finish that one and give it to the church.......

There can also be found in my purse quite a variety of stuffed toys, cars and pacifiers, a puzzle and last week's church bulletin, a tape measure, a small calculator and a set of keys. There's a wallet in there to, safely zipped into a pocket on the outside back....out of the way of little hands that frequently dig through my purse half way through mass. (Don't know why they insist on doing THAT!)

Shall we move on to Bag #3?????
This is Mightymom's "Flag Bag" which goes everywhere with me (except church). And I do mean everywhere. It's my "don't leave home without it" bag.

Shall we look inside??

Hhhhmmmm, I see sunglasses and contact case...(there's supposed to be a small bottle of contact solution in here, wonder where that went?), Bag #4 filled with Kleenex, the current book (I'm in Treasure Island), 2 folders and assorted papers from work, this blasted cross stitch I've been working on forever, along with it's instructions and Bag #5 which contains the cross stitch thread and my small craft scissors in their holder. Yes, Bootsie, I'm letting the cat out of the bag here.

OK, everything back into my Flag Bag and let's move up and around the corner a bit here......

ready??.......

Aaaahhh, here we find Sugars' unfinished baby quilt (really ought to get that finished) and 2 more bags.

Inside Bag #6 is all the fabric needed to finish Sugars' quilt right here waiting to be worked on.

and Bag #7.....

oooooo supplies and finished Christmas gifts...better not let you look too closely at that one just yet.

So, I said 8 bags right?? We're missing one.....

Can you find it???

OH, there you are!!

Why were you hiding?????

SSSSSSSSSSSHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!

TOP SECRET Christmas gift making in progress here!!!

And there you have my 8 bags currently residing in the living room.

There are many more in the closet of Sugars' room, let's take a quick peek.....

By the by, I've found that the best way to store bags (both empty and full) is to hang them in the closet this way, keeps them closed, out of the way and easily accessible.

So, are you a Bag Lady too????

Come on now,

Fess uP!

A new blog

In my wanderings I've wandered across a new blog.

This blog is run by a deployed soldier's girlfriend, Stacey.

He just left and she's hurting.

Would you mind stopping by to give her some support??

I truly believe the sacrifice of the military members loved ones is GREAT and we're not doing our job if we don't support and undergird them.

March 2008

So, sometime while I was working last weekend Subvet had this little drama with Gator-boy:

Dad: Get those fingers out of your mouth!

Dad: The other hand isn't ok either!!

Dad: Hey! Neither is your foot!

Some things never change!

This has been another installment of TINY TALK TUESDAY Go see Mary at Not Before 7 to see more of this fun event.

Question for the week.

Linda at Are We There Yet? periodically has "I've got a question, you've got an answer" posts.

So, this post is stol...ahem....inspired by Linda.

Seeing as how it's been >100 degrees all week reaching 107 today (Sunday) with a heat index in the zillions (for me anyway) my question for you is this:

How do you "beat the heat"?? What's your favorite way to cool off.

As for myself I've taken to taking a glass of ice water with me when I leave for work and drinking while driving (I know, I know). Since I have to be at work at 6:45PM I'm leaving the house about 6PM, ie, the hottest part of the day. Frequently when I get in the car the electronic thermometer says very silly things such as 108, 110, and Sat night 113. As I drive it usually drops into the 100-103 range. But that ice water sure tastes good even at that "cool" temp.

THE TURTLE MOVED!!

So, we got a new scale see.

I immediately decided I didn't like this scale as it was going in the wrong direction. I told Subvet that we seemed to go through scales rather quickly around here.

I'm guessing that the poor scale heard us and became fearful for it's life....

Because the next time I got on it....

It had MOVED in the right direction a fair bit!!

Which of course means that I get to move that turtle.

Yipppeeeeeee!!

So, moral of the story, strike fear into the hearts of your scales and results will follow!

Show and Tell

Show and Tell

This is my and my grandmother's quilt.

Back when I was first married my Grandmother decided that she couldn't do any more quilting and gave me about 5 large boxes of all her material/scraps/quilting stuff.

In it I found all of her "tester blocks" and 7 blocks plus a lot of extra fabric for a lap quilt she didn't get finished.

When Sonshine was a baby I was going to my Grandparent's house about every 3 months. About 2 weeks before one of these visits I decided that I just had to make her a quilt. So I took all those tester blocks and the unfinished lap quilt and made them into same sized blocks then put them together with sashing to make this quilt. Due to how fast I needed it done I tied the quilt instead of quilting it. Then I took it to Grandmother.

Later, she replaced one of the blocks that "didn't match" with another one, and she went back and quilted the whole thing, taking out my ties.

From all I've been told this quilt was very special to her, when she became hospitalized due to her strokes, she asked especially for them to bring it to her.
