My Husband "Subvet" says that when our first son "Sonshine" was born the sun rose on our world, when our second son "Gator" was born the sun laughed and when our daughter "Sugars" was born all the flowers bloomed. That says it all.

Guess the meaning...........

So,

Sonshine always talks.

Sonshine always talks about something he's heard or seen.

Sonshine always talks about something he's heard or seen mixed up with something else he's heard or seen.

Sonshine always talks about something he's heard or seen, mixed up with something else he's heard or seen, and calls them names from some book or movie.

Anyone wanna try to figure out what this story is all about?

"YEEEEESSS Momma!!" (I don't know why every story starts this way, but it does.)

"The scarecrows and the pumpkins were turned on, Momma! And the ANGRY ghosts and the happy ghosts...they were happy to be angry Momma!........And the Sleeping Death was riding a tricycle Momma! YEEEESS Momma! the Sleeping Death was riding a tricycle and the ghosts were going night night in the pumpkin!"

This came while he was telling me about going to the park that day with Dad.

I'm telling you he wears out my brain.

What I'm about.

Have you ever stopped to think what you're "all about"??

I have. I thought long and hard over the past 2 years to determine what it is I'm all about. Here's what I came up with.

1) I'm all about enjoying the ride.

I'm not where I want to be, but I'm gonna enjoy getting there

2) I'm all about making someone smile.

Doesn't matter what it takes to get it, everyone needs a smile a day.

3) I'm all about forgetting that "they" are watching.

eh, screw em.

4) I'm all about putting God first.

It's taken me down a twisting path...but as long as it's His plan it's all good.

5) I'm all about loving others as I love myself.

My daily prayer:

Lord, make me an instrument of your peace,
Where there is hatred, let me sow love;
where there is injury, pardon;
where there is doubt, faith;
where there is despair, hope;
where there is darkness, light;
where there is sadness, joy;
O Divine Master, grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled as to console;
to be understood as to understand;
to be loved as to love.

For it is in giving that we receive;
it is in pardoning that we are pardoned;
and it is in dying that we are born to eternal life.

St Francis of Assisi

So, what are YOU "all about"??

Wednesday Hero

Wednesday Hero was started to put a spotlight on the men and women of the United States military and the bravery they show day in and day out. But on a few occasions a service member of an allied nation has been profiled. Such is the case this week.

Despite being shot twice during an ambush in Afghanistan, an SAS (Special Air Service) soldier from Australia lashed himself to the front of his patrol vehicle so he wouldn't be left behind if he passed out from loss of blood and kept on fighting.

The Digger is expected to be recommended for a high level bravery award.

Suffering from serious upper body wounds, the soldier struggled on to the front of his SAS long range patrol vehicle (LRPV) and, under heavy fire, used a rope to attach himself firmly between the vehicle's bull bar and radiator.

Once he was secured, and there was no chance that he would fall off if he fainted, he picked up his rifle and resumed firing at the enemy during a two-hour fighting withdrawal.

SAS troops and their special forces comrades from the Commando Regiment are well aware of the slow and painful death that awaits them if they are captured by the Taliban.

The Digger, who cannot be identified, faded in and out of consciousness, emptying several magazines as volleys of enemy rounds and rocket propelled grenades, rained down around him.

He was finally evacuated from the battle field at high speed still lashed to the front of the LRPV.

A source told The Courier-Mail the Digger was now "up and about" and would recover fully from his serious gunshot wounds. His heroic deeds will be recognised when he is recommended for a high level bravery award.

Several others engaged in the do-or-die battle on September 2 are also in line for top honours.

Growing Babies!!

So, I'm betting you can't see this well enough to even try and guess what it is (crappy camera strikes again) so I'll just tell you.

Sonshine lost his first tooth this week!! :-) This is a pic of said tooth sittin on the dollar that the tooth fairy brought him for it.
Funny thing. He couldn't care less about the dollar. It's still sitting on the table. I'm guessing that will change over time...huh? So, now I need to add making a tooth pillow to my To-Do List. Wonder if it'll get made before Sugars looses her first tooth??

And not too long after I wrote that post about toddler past-times Sugars was found enjoying hers.

Cuteness.
It is a precisely developed mechanism employed in order that one may be allowed to do those things that one shouldn't do.....it works by completely and instantly destroying the parent's reprimand system on sight.

To Lori who said "kids that talk and entertain themselves are a GOOD thing. But when they get REALLY quiet and you're in the bathroom, you're guaranteed a major mess!"

After Sugars emptied my bag of 246 yoyos that are sorted for the 3 bears and was found "counting" them while Daddy was in the bathroom....for the third time....I offered to give him a catheter. He wasn't impressed by my act of generosity. So I moved the bag instead. :-)

For Jungle Mom, Diane and other war movie buffs. Here's my favorite quote from my favorite war movie.

"Negative waves! Negative waves! Always with the negative waves!"
"I like it man, yeah! Like, so many positive waves...like it's GOTTA work!!!"

Who can name that movie? Character speaking? Actor?? any other trivia??? Does it surprise you that I like this character so much??

A Toddler's favorite past-time.....

So, what is a toddler's favorite past-time????

Depends on the toddler, I guess.

For Sonshine (who almost can no longer be called "toddler") the fav passtime is TALKING. This child talks till your ears are exhausted ("sauced" in my house). I mean it....he's gotten past the point of just quoting a movie...to now he takes bits and pieces of conversations, movies, and his own thoughts and weaves them into this wild story of his own. It's crazy to listen to and will wear you out trying to follow.

For Gator-boy the fav passtime would be misbehaving. I don't think he likes the corner...but it's hard to tell. I've gotten to where the first thing I do when entering a new environment is point out to him how many corners there are. "This room has 4 corners and I WILL use them if you kids don't BEHAVE!!

And Sugars' fav passtime would be a tie between being a first class PEST to her brothers and emptying each and every diaper out of this bucket, one at a time.

Just call her name and tell her "No!" and she'll put them all back again...one at a time.

The Good News:
My children are wonderful at entertaining themselves.

The Bad News:
My children are wonderful at entertaining themselves.

Wednesday Hero

Before we get to the Wednesday Hero post this week I'd like to address a comment left last week by Diana, she said: "it's so nice of you to do this each wednesday. i know i don't always comment on these posts but it's really because i don't quite know what to say. nothing seems adequate for the sacrifices that are made. i do say a prayer of thanks and ask God to protect those away from home, serving their country... which is us!"

Yes, Diana, that's why I've joined Indian Chris' group who are reposting these each week. Because there is nothing to say except in prayer. And I truly believe we need to be reminded that every name on the KIA list that Subvet puts out each Sunday has a story behind it and a family who lost a loved one. They're hard to read...they make me cry...but I will not allow our men and women to be forgotten or taken for granted..in as much as I am able.

Anyone feel the same? follow the link at the end of the post and join Chris in her effort to get these reposted around the internet each week.
Thanks Sarah.

It's another Finished Project!!

Going to a baby shower at work a couple weeks from now so that meant I needed to make another of my flannel baby blankets. Everyone loves these and they take about an hour to make. Here's what you do. Take 2 lengths of cutsie flannel that are the same size...or 1 big one folded in half and sew around the edges leaving a space to turn. Trim the corners, turn right side out and iron the edges flat. Then pick a fun contrasting color and topstitch around the outside close to the edge....then pick a cute decorative stitch and sew again alittle ways in from the edge. The decorative stitch not only makes it look more "finished" but it will also add "heft" to the edges and that keeps the blanket from sliding off the baby so easily.
Oh and don't you love my little stamp I got last year?? Thanks for the ribbon Steph!

Have Patience

OK, so a new friend of mine mentioned a certain trip she's gonna be taking that will involve a slow moving vehicle and several miles of shall we say "prairie scenery"....

In response I was going to type out the lyrics to my favorite patience song that has stayed with me for 28 years...ever since my children's choir (of which my mom was director) did the musical "The Music Machine" for church.

Now, just for grins I decided to see if I could somehow find this --ahem-- antique children's song on youtube as it really is much better knowing what TUNE you're supposed to be singing on your road-trip.

Would you believe that someone has actually recorded the song??? AND this little cutie has put a puppet show to it! Now, omiting the fact that her room could use a touch of purple in it here and there...this is one swell video to my favorite song...which I STILL sing frequently in the car...causing my husband to quickly turn on the radio...at max volume.

Enjoy! And remember to sing it anytime you feel a bit less than patient...if nothing else the reactions you get in line at the checkout counter are priceless! (especially if you sing LOUDLY)....I've been known to have others in line request encores so they could join in.

See! Humor is Good!

excerpt taken from an interview with Pope Benedict XVI in 2006

Fuchs: Stories with humor in them too? In 1989 in Munich you were given the Karl Valentin Award. What role does humor play in the life of a pope?

I'm not a man who constantly thinks up jokes. But I think it's very important to be able to see the funny side of life and its joyful dimension and not to take everything too tragically. I'd also say it's necessary for my ministry. A writer once said that angels can fly because they don't take themselves too seriously. Maybe we could also fly a bit if we didn't think we were so important.

but Sonshine's right one shows much more often.

These are Grandma Lillie's Lillies.

Before she died my Grandma Lillie lived across the street from my Uncle and Aunt. She had a wonderful flower and vegetable garden.

When she died my Aunt went and dug up some of her bulbs and moved them to her flower beds, including these lillies.

Last May my Aunt and Uncle sold their house to "downsize" a bit.
On her last trip to the old home Aunt Gay offered for my stepmother to dig up whatever bulbs she wanted from her beds...specifically stating that these were Grandma's lillies. So my stepmom went and dug.

I knew nothing about any of this, till one day in June we're leaving her house and my stepmom says Wait! I have something for you! Brings out these two big bulbs and tells me the story, saying that if these don't bloom she has plenty more to share.

So I clear a spot in my sadly overgrown bed (can't weed at 2am, when I have my free time) and plop the bulbs in....in the middle of June. I figured that these were like my Easter Lillies and would bloom in the spring.

Little did I know they were late-summer-early-fall-ish bloomers.

So, does anyone know what this type of lily is called? I'd love to know.

Thesaurus Thursday

I told Subvet that the women wouldn't know the movie. He figures EVERYONE should know that one.....

Diana, everything from "I can eat 50 eggs" to the end of my clip was a takeoff from Paul Newman's movie Cool Hand Luke. That's what made it so funny.

Now, a good friend of mine sent me a prayer request/proud celebration and asked me to share it with you. PenofJen aka Humble Wife aka Ma Kettle aka (well, I've lost track of all her names) anyway, you know who I mean right?? Well her son just enlisted in the ARMY and she's asking for prayers. This Week's Post Was Suggested And Written By Kathi

SSgt. Renee A. Deville
SSgt. Renee A. Deville
44 years old from Webster New York
401st Civil Affairs Battalion
September 1, 2008
U.S. Army

SSGT Renee A. Deville was an Army Reservist who deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom with the 401st Civil Affairs Battalion from Webster, N.Y. She arrived at Walter Reed August 10, 2006, after being injured in a mortar attack.

While at Walter Reed, Deville was assigned to Chosen Battery, Warrior Transition Brigade, and was among three graduates of the Army's first Basic Noncommissioned Officers Course Stand Alone Common Core offered to Warriors in Transition.

Deville, who successfully completed every aspect of the course from a wheelchair, was lauded by SGT Major of the Army Kenneth O. Preston as exemplifying the Army's 'Warrior Ethos', at the graduation ceremony for the course on March 28, 2008.

Deville was also the impetus for a new playground being built behind the Mologne House at Walter Reed in 2007.

An October 2007 Washington Post article about the opening of the playground says that SSGT Deville's mention of her children's limited recreational options to Col. Bruce Haselden, the garrison commander, helped set in motion the playground project.

Staff Sgt. Renee Antoinette Deville died September 1, 2008 in her room at the Mologne House at Walter Reed. She was 44.

She is survived by her husband and 4 children, her mother, a brother, and two sisters.

SSGT Deville was laid to rest in Arlington National Cemetery on September 19, 2008.

These brave men and women sacrifice so much in their lives so that others may enjoy the freedoms we get to enjoy everyday. For that, I am proud to call them Hero.
We Should Not Only Mourn These Men And Women Who Died, We Should Also Thank God That Such People Lived
