My Husband "Subvet" says that when our first son "Sonshine" was born the sun rose on our world, when our second son "Gator" was born the sun laughed and when our daughter "Sugars" was born all the flowers bloomed. That says it all.

It's about learning how to dance in the rain."

Show and Tell

Show and Tell

This little wool coat with matching bonnet is rich in family history and legacy.

It was made by my Grandma, to the best recollection of my mother (not always reliable) it was made for one of my older cousins. Then Grandma gave it to mom for me to wear. When my step-mother had my sister mom gave this coat and bonnet to her for my sister. Last Christmas my step-mother gave it to me for Sugars. Sugars is named after Grandma...it feels as though it's come full circle. I never knew that Grandma sewed till Denise gave me this jacket. It is expertly made. Fully lined (even the bonnet) with little pleats, buttons and fabric bows (not ribbons). Amazingly there is NO EVIDENCE of moth attack in the wool. No holes, no worn places. Just 1 missing button that I will try to replace before winter. I hope that Sugars can wear it a few times next winter. At least for pictures! Then I will carefully pack it away to hand down to the next little girl in the family.

How beautiful is that? Your daughter will look so sweet in it. I wish I'd had stuff handed down from my maternal gran, as she was a very good needlewoman, but sadly she died before I was born.

Handmade--how beautiful! I hope it lasts a long time so Sugars can appreciate it as much as you do.

That's beautiful. I wonder if there is a way to protect it now, so that the fabric stays that nice. It's amazing the condition it's in.

What a beautiful coat! I love the old fashioned dress coats for kids. It is a pitty we do not dress our kids up for church much any more.

Thanks for sharing.

Blessings,

I love old clothes that are handmade. It is amazing that there are no moth holes. (I do have a jacket that was made by my aunt and it too has no moth holes---it was made about 68 years ago. I still wear it!--originally it was my mothers)
