My Husband "Subvet" says that when our first son "Sonshine" was born the sun rose on our world, when our second son "Gator" was born the sun laughed and when our daughter "Sugars" was born all the flowers bloomed. That says it all.

It's about learning how to dance in the rain."

Thesaurus Thursday

Well, it's Thursday again....see I didn't forget!

While this week has been exciting I am glad to see it draw to a close, simply because Subvet is taking his vacation time Mon, Tues, and Wed next week. I shall have to get used to his snoring all over again weeheee!!

I must, however, admit that the reason for the vacation is causing me great trepidation.

His mother (whom I've never met) is moving from California into an Assisted Living Facility about 2 miles from our home. So, after 8.5 YEARS of marriage, I will get to meet my mother-in-law, and introduce her to our children. This brings on a feeling of ambivalence. Truly a simultaneous desire to do two opposite things.

Thing 1 - run around like the Tasmanian Devil on speed and really clean my house to pass inspection (even dust!!)

Thing 2 - blow her off completely and say since she repeatedly turned us down for visits before now she can take me and my house and my children as we are.

So, while I'm deciding on a plan of action for the weekend you can work on this week's words. {And feel free to place your vote for Things 1 or 2.} If I don't blog much between now and next Wed then you know the reason...or I may have a whole lot to talk about...we'll have to see.

On to our words of the week!

okapi

gramineous

Love these new awards Diana made for you. Just perfect!!! I do not know either of these words :o(

On the choice about your mother-in-love ... I would say a mid-way point between 1 & 2. I wouldn't stand on my head for her but I surely wouldn't blow her off. Remember, Love covers a multitude of sins!!!

My comment disappeared. I am with Susan,

But I would treat her as if she was at dinner on Sunday. Let the air be forgot and build a connection now. Like it or not she is here for good and she needs you and the kids, nursing homes are the end of the line...and the residents know this.

Please remember that God is bringing her near you and you could really find that you like her.

Pretend that she is my mom, to start. Be courteous, and inquisitive and forget that she made some very seemingly poor choices.

Now to the game
okapi- a small deer or gazelle

gramineous-when a senior moves near family and needs love and compassion.

"Sonshine, we are going to visit, because gramineous. And as long as she needs us we will be there!"

I'm with Susan. I wouldn't kill myself cleaning, but I'd be open until I met her and could make an informed decision about her.

I know what "okapi" is: It's a strange looking mammal, kind like a cross between a giraffe and an antelope or buffalo. It's a grazing animal, white stripes and just altogether funky looking. Doesn't fit in most of the the mammal categories.

Have I mentioned that I'm a science and biology nut?

Gramineous: Hmmm.....

Gramineous: adj: deriving from and pertaining to "grumpy".

Usage: I'm feeling quite gramineous since I threw the stupid cat a piece of my chopped ham she begged for and now won't eat it.

I dunno if I agree with Diane about the okapi. That may be what they call it in Africa, but in these parts, where it gets really cold... it's what we wear to bed, to top off our ojammies (you know, the ones with the BIG O in the back!)

Cool new awards you got there! Very spiffy indeed!

Okapi - that would be a pie indigenous to the State of Oklahoma!

Gramineous - rapper slang for "Gram's in the house"

There, how's that??

Good luck with the mom-in-law, I'm sure it will work out just fine once you get over the awkwardness of the whole thing.

Well, it's mom-in-law's loss, as I am sure she will discover, and then she will be grateful you didn't hold it against her. And gratitude is always gramineous.

(Darned if I know what that means, but I sure like how it rolls off my tongue.)

Okapi--sounds Native American--maybe a tribe?

Or that it's "okay (to) pee", usually spoken when I take Tandi outside before I've had my coffee.

Hi - I came over to answer your question concerning my dear friend Patti who is in hospital in so much pain. She recently had a double mastectomy. Her 4th and final chemo therapy was last week, however due to diverticulitis and previous hospital stays due to absceses (sp?) and infections, more than the cancer and chemo have gotten her down. This is her 2nd time to be hospitalized since her mastectomy. They plan on removing part of her colon Nov. 6. They were just waiting for the chemo and side affects to pass, but the liquid diet to help relieve the inflammation and flare up has given her migraines.

Sorry so long. Thanks for your question of concern though.

I appreciate your sidebar listing soldiers you pray for. God bles them!

PS: Enjoy that mother in law of yours!

i'm with susan - i'd go somewhere inbetween #1 and #2. i can understand wanting to make a decent impression and yet with an attitude of "this is who we are!"

i hope you enjoy meeting her and getting to know her.

If it were this Cookie...the choice would be the latter. Let her take me, my house and my kids as we are. She was the rude one by refusing all the invites....but...thats just my way a thinkin....

As far as your MIL goes... I'm going out on a limb here and I'm going to suggest you honor her in any way you can. I think in the long run you will be blessed for that and when she dies your conscience will be free...
