Welcome to my house.
So I get my first visitor in 3 weeks and what happens?
She gets attacked at my front door by

i had nothing better to do so i did some online research and think i found the answer to your question (after all... you always answer our questions)
it looks like it's a cottonwood borer which is part of the beetle family. i read that they are mostly found in texas and oklahoma. you can google it and find many sites with pictures and info. here's one:
Just be glad he didn't have wings...if he'd have flown at me...you would have heard a scream that would have echoed to the four corners of the universe.
Oh, my word! I don't know, but it's very intersting. That'd be in a jar with sticks and leaves in a second if we found it here. Right now, we're crawling with June bugs. They show up everywhere in the house and can't figure out where they get in. I'm beginning to suspect my three year old...

I lived in Houston for close to 17 years and NEVER saw anything like that.
I do remember my first Palmetto bug, though ( and that was 45 years ago). Utter and complete shock!
