My Husband "Subvet" says that when our first son "Sonshine" was born the sun rose on our world, when our second son "Gator" was born the sun laughed and when our daughter "Sugars" was born all the flowers bloomed. That says it all.

It's about learning how to dance in the rain."

Thesaurus Thursday

Just in case this is your first time by here on a Thesaurus Thursday, the "rules" of Thesaurus Thursday are as follows:

First and foremost, leave as many funny definitions for either word (or both) as you can think up in the comments!! The ones that make me laugh the hardest will be given the Silly Goose Award.

Next, if you know (or think you know) the true definitions without looking them up then be sure and leave those in the comments too!! All definitions that are correct (or close enough for government work and Mighty Mom) will win the Smarty Pants Award!
Awards will be given out in Saturday's post, so don't forget to come and see if you won!

This week's words are:

kachina or katcina or katchina

kampong or campong

OK, here goes

Katchina is quite simple so my simple mind picked up on it quickly. It is actually Mongolian spelling of a small usually round ceramic dish placed on the floor that food is taken out of so your furry four legged friend can make a mess on the kitchen floor. Translation/Definition: Cat China.

The second definition required more thought about 45 seconds which is my attention span on a good day. Mr. Cam invented this somewhat silly object that kept coming back to him. He fell on hard times and had to sell it for money. So he sold it to his neighbor Mr. Foo. Mr. Foo added a large piece of wood and, two small insterments, an extra person, his son, and they named the endeavor. So Campong is actually the precursor to what we know as PING PONG!

Kampong - is what you say when you jump from the arm of the couch or from your bed to your silbings bed just feet from your bed. And body slam them. Something my kids use to do from there beds when they were side by side

Kachina - sounds like a super yummy dessert. I am guessing a sweet smooth soft outer layer of milk chocalate and then layers and layers of white choclate and rasberry filling in the middle.

kachina a doll made by American Indians.

campong...a device of dubious origins(possibly Haight Ashbury) and is what one uses to use an illegal substance while out on a camping excursion.

If I remember correctly Kachinas are more than just dolls--they represent spirits the Native American people, ummm, maybe not worship, but definitely honor. I have a plaque of a Morning Kachina in my kitchen, and an ornament for my Christmas tree of a Kachina. I believe they are usually made by the Hopi tribe, but other tribes may have them, too. (It's probably not fair that I lived in New Mexico for 20 years.)

Kampong--camphor-scented ping pong ball.

Ditto what they said about the kachina dolls. I knew that one.

I know the other one too, but the real definition escapes me right now so I'll go for a funny one instead...

Kampong: An article of feminine clothing similar to a sarong, but worn for camping.

Usage: Gertie, I have to be honest with you, in that kampong you look like 10 pounds of meal stuffed in a 5 pound bag.
