My Husband "Subvet" says that when our first son "Sonshine" was born the sun rose on our world, when our second son "Gator" was born the sun laughed and when our daughter "Sugars" was born all the flowers bloomed. That says it all.

MightyMom

earlier this week in a comment on a friend's blog I wrote:

Apparently in the years that I've had the hooligan clan in preschool/therapy and things have gone well I've lost my MightyMom mojo. I'm now faced with The Battle of the ISD and am quaking in my super hero boots and have misplaced my cape. Please pray for my perserverance and fortitude. Meanwhile I'll be searching out 5 smooth stones and a slingshot while preparing to stare down the Giant.

On Wednesday, I guess I found my mojo.

MM calls school leaves message for principal.
1 hour later no response so MM calls back, is told principal went directly into meeting...VP not available...MM speaks to counselor.

MM lays out in polite but definitive terms current school issues and MM's requests.

Counselor says she'll talk to Principal and call back.

MM goes to bed, SuperDad Subvet takes over....he goes to school and stakes out Principal's office.

SS tells MM later that evening that Principal started by telling him how MM'd yelled at counselor. We laugh...if she thinks I was yelling she'd better hang onto her wig. I've not even begun to get REALLY mad yet!

Principal tries to brush off SS. ain't happening.

Thanks to his superhero powers of persuasion SS gets'r'dun and we now have plan of attack for improving Sonshine's school experience. Albeit a different plan than what we'd requested.

To Be Continued............

I'm thinking I'll make us matching capes for Halloween!

Hell hath no fury like a Mama fighting for her kids. My apologies to Congreve (had to look up the quote on Wikipedia; I originally thought it was Shakespeare).

Yeah, I had to make a few trips to school on Jessica's behalf. They still remember me there too. ;o)

Y'all stick to your guns. Hope you don't have to make that a literal statement. :-/

Oh dear.

Stand tall, Mighty Mom. If anyone is equipped for this battle, it's you!

Being assertive is not an easy task!!! You both apparently did a fine job. How is it they always mistake "assertive" with "yelling?"

Two capes? Go for it!! Have a grand day! Cathy

As the Bible says "Two are better then one" Ok way out of context...
but I'm glad you gave it to them with the double barrels!

Hell hath no fury like a Mighty Mom protecting her young! Found those five smooth stones yet?

Oh, one other thing, any chance you could talk someone into picking out some new colors for your blog? With my old eyes, I had a horrendous time reading this morning's post without constant squinting. 'Tis a lovely color - just not good for us a half-blind folks !

Sarah, I'm glad that there is a plan in place and keep on them. If they are anything like the principal and vice principal that Brandon had, they will have to constantly be reminded that Sonshine has accommodations. His last year principal will never forget me. I didn't yell, but he said he'd never been talked to like that in his entire career. After that, I still had to go back to the school several times to make them grant Brandon's accommodations.

Superhero parents are great for your kids. Keep up the great team work and have a wonderful day.

Blessings,
Mary

Welcome to the club - you are officially "one of those moms that the teachers talk about in the teachers' room". I am a proud member myself. I had to fight for my son until he hit high school albeit for different reasons than you. I found that sticking to my guns and not going away was the best answer. At this point, they simply go along with things. :) You know what is best for your child better than anyone else. You may not have the education but you have the knowledge. It might be a long journey but it is so worth it. Good luck!

I would LOVE to see that-a pic of the two of you in your capes :) Way to be persistent. Especially where special needs are concerned, it seems the squeaky wheels do get greased first.
